Heating is vital in Vermont’s cold winters, yet the rural state remains heavily reliant on delivered fuels like oil and propane. The Clean Heat Standard, currently in the design process and up for a vote in 2025, will help the energy industry transition while also reducing emissions and managing energy burdens for low-moderate income Vermonters.
To incentivize rooftop solar development, Vermont offers the Net Metering program to electric customers. Despite its popularity, this program has struggled in recent years due to worsening compensation rates. ACT is committed to advocating for rates that ensure smaller electric generators are fairly compensated for their contribution to the grid.

Their patented, novel membrane technology enables energy producers to separate gases with higher product recovery, higher energy efficiency, and a smaller physical footprint.
Aclarity destroys PFAS forever with a proprietary electrochemical process to break down contaminants. They solve large water problems upstream for treatment facilities, municipalities, and landfills. In drinking water, the contaminants are destroyed and clean water passes out the other side. The low-energy process uses less than 40 Wh per gallon.

While the legislature has not yet passed these and other vital climate reforms, ACT will work to ensure that Massachusetts and neighboring states forge equitable solutions to power our clean energy future.

Each bar represents a year, highlighting the increasing volume of false climate information. In a time when false information spreads quickly, it is more important than ever to prevent lies from being accepted as truth. Misinformation distorts public understanding and, left unchecked, can influence decisions and slow or delay progress toward a sustainable future.
ACT researched hundreds of climate tech startups across the Northeast and selected these three in Maine as ones to watch based on traction in funds raised, team growth, revenue growth, early deployments, and scaling up facilities. All the startups listed participated in one or both of our innovation programs, which helped accelerate and connect them.
Peregrine Turbine Technologies is scaling up advanced sCO2 (supercritical carbon dioxide) turbine power generation, energy storage and propulsion systems. The projected improvements in fuel efficiency and emissions, reduced maintenance and repair costs are about to change the nature of power generation.
Amply Energy Amply Energy provides software for heat pump contractors that make their lives easier and their customers happier. Amply's sales tool creates a faster and more accurate process for comfort advisors. With one app, you can instantly collect the data, run calculations and generate a heat pump design that both customers and install teams will love.
Finsulate is scaling up an eco-friendly adhesive wrap applied to the underside of boats, as a non-toxic, cost-effective solution to antifouling paint, inspired by sea urchins. It stops unwanted marine life from sticking to the surfaces of platforms and boats, amd also cuts down on the time a vessel needs to be out of water for maintenance.
Maine’s thoughtful approach to embracing clean energy development and its transmission and distribution seeks to balance decarbonization needs with appropriate land use priorities.

In May 2024, the Maine Public Utilities Commission opened a docket to begin procurement of transmission and generation projects as part of the Northern Maine Renewable Energy Development Program. There are significant opportunities for renewable energy expansion to meet Maine’s renewable energy goals while balancing land use and community impacts.
Agricultural lands are a valuable natural resource, yet many farmers struggle to make ends meet with farming alone. Agrivoltaics—the symbiotic use of land for solar energy generation and agriculture—empower farmers to maximize the value of their land and provide additional income. ACT will advocate for a balanced approach to conservation and solar.
Maine’s 10-year Economic Strategy identifies offshore wind as a critical opportunity to grow the state’s economy. It encourages maximizing economic benefits for Mainers and creating a culture of innovation and leadership in this growing industry. At ACT, we foster collaboration necessary to bring abundant wind resources to help power the region.
Maine's clean energy sector is growing rapidly. In 2023, clean energy jobs increased to 27,000, up by 1,000 from the previous year, showcasing Maine’s commitment to sustainability. Hiring also improved, with employers reporting 48% difficulty finding skilled workers, down from 54% in 2022, highlighting efforts in workforce training programs.
