Reflecting its growing activities in New York State, NECEC today announced it is formalizing its commitment to greater clean energy economy growth across the seven states of New England and New York by changing the name of its business member organization from "New England" to the Northeast Clean Energy Council.
“The Northeast’s world-class clean energy industry is growing rapidly due in large part to the dedication of state officials and strong private sector innovation and engagement that is driving policies and markets for clean energy technologies and resources,” said NECEC President Peter Rothstein. “We have seen our members increase investment and business interests in the New York market. By expanding NECEC’s business, innovation and policy initiatives to New York, we’ll be better able to advance clean energy innovations, accelerate market opportunities for our members and help attract businesses throughout the world to be part of the Northeast’s clean energy economy.”
Through initiatives like the Reforming the Energy Vision, New York State is showing unprecedented leadership on clean energy. NECEC has been increasingly involved in the New York REV initiative with members and partners, as well as leading Northeast-wide innovation and entrepreneurship programs (Cleantech Open Northeast and Cleantech Navigate Northeast) with support and partnership from NYSERDA, and other Northeast states and corporate partners. NECEC’s unique model brings together business leaders and key stakeholders to engage in influential policy discussions, community building, market development, and innovation and entrepreneurial activities that propel the clean energy industry forward.
To celebrate this development, NECEC today will convene clean energy business leaders for a panel discussion called “Accelerating Markets in the Northeast Energy Economy” today at 4:00pm at the New York Law School. The panel will be webcast here. Panelists include:
“In the past 10 years, NECEC has been instrumental in helping to develop new cleantech business in the Northeast, and we look forward to its growing role in New York State.” said John B. Rhodes, President and CEO, NYSERDA. “Under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, New York is accelerating the clean energy economy in the state, and innovative cleantech companies are a major component of that growth.”
“MassCEC is pleased to see the formal inclusion of New York in the Northeast Clean Energy Council – clearly clean energy development does not stop at states’ borders,” said MassCEC Interim CEO Stephen Pike. “We’re looking forward to continuing to collaborate with our northeast neighbors in growing the clean energy sector.”
“The New England Clean Energy Council has been a critical influence on the growth and expansion of clean energy and technology in New England,” said Paul Gaynor, executive vice president of SunEdison’s Global Utility business unit and a member of NECEC’s board of directors. “By expanding into New York, the entire Northeast can benefit from the Council’s leadership and we can continue the effort to make our region a clean energy powerhouse.”
“As we come up on our one year anniversary of entering the New York market, we’re proud to stand alongside Northeast Clean Energy Council and its new vision. Widespread adoption of clean energy is a global issue, and it’s great to see the Council leading the conversation beyond the borders of New England,” said Next Step Living CEO Geoff Chapin.
“NECEC's unique ability to convene the key players in the clean energy ecosystem to advance clean energy business opportunities and industry growth is one-of-a-kind,” said Marc Marano Managing Director Investment Banking, Canaccord Genuity. “New York’s clean energy ecosystem will benefit immensely from NECEC's increasing presence as the Northeast Clean Energy Council."
Since 2006, NECEC has been the premier voice of businesses building a world-class clean energy hub in New England and increasingly in New York. NECEC is already impacting the growing Northeast clean energy industry through its Innovation & Entrepreneurship programs, (Cleantech Navigate Northeast and Cleantech Open Northeast), through involvement in regulatory initiatives including the New York Reforming the Energy Vision initiative, and by its market and corporate development program, the Strategic Partner Network, which launched in 2014 to help the Northeast’s leading global corporations grow their strategic energy innovation roles by building relationships across the cleantech industry and develop practices for open innovation, investment and strategic partnerships that leverage the Northeast’s world-class cleantech industry and markets.
Today’s “Accelerating Markets in the Northeast Energy Economy” panel is part of NECEC’s NYC Cleantech Summit, which includes targeted networking events for entrepreneurs, the final judging for the annual Cleantech Open Northeast business competition, and a startup showcase and awards ceremony celebrating the region’s top cleantech innovators. NECEC is hosting the Summit in partnership with NYSERDA, PowerBridgeNY, NEXUS-NY, NYC ACRE, and Cleantech Open Northeast. This summit is part of a two-week Northeast Cleantech & Innovation Tour, which concludes on October 29th with NECEC’s 8th Annual Green Tie Gala in Boston.
