In conjunction with Mintz and The Brattle Group, NECEC recently co-hosted the Northeast Region Emissions Reduction Summit, a half-day program dedicated to addressing the Northeast region’s ambitious goals for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Highlights from the summit can be viewed in the summary report released today, Accelerating to 80: Driving the Northeast's Deep Decarbonization Targets.
The summit featured stakeholders from government, industry, and advocacy groups to discuss how the region could reduce GHG emissions by 80% by 2050 while overcoming significant technical, market-based, and political barriers. To help frame the options for overcoming these challenges, participants leveraged their collective knowledge and individual experiences to identify solutions and strategies to develop solutions. Suggestions involved regional cooperation, the removal of barriers to market entry, market reforms, and leveraging stakeholder engagement.
