NECEC President Peter Rothstein made the following statement marking the historic significance of the trio of clean energy bills (L.D. 1679, An Act To Promote Clean Energy Jobs and To Establish the Maine Climate Council; L.D. 1494, An Act To Reform Maine's Renewable Portfolio Standard; L.D. 1711, An Act To Promote Solar Energy Projects and Distributed Generation Resources in Maine) signed into law by Governor Janet Mills earlier today:
“It is a new day in Maine. Governor Mills and the Legislature have signaled to the world that Maine is again a clean energy state. The signing of these important bills is a culmination of a remarkable legislative session, one that will guide Maine’s investment in and adoption of clean energy for decades to come, while playing a key role in combating climate change. The new laws will expand renewable energy requirements, enable customers to pursue solar energy, and create a Climate Council of diverse stakeholders to plan for Maine’s future. Together, this trio of legislation opens the door to clean energy jobs and a stronger energy system. We look forward to working with Governor Mills and her administration as the work shifts to implementing the provisions of these three important laws.”
