Peter Rothstein, President of NECEC, offered the following statement upon the release of the final revised SMART regulations by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources.

“NECEC commends the efforts of the Baker-Polito Administration and the Department of Energy Resources to build upon the Commonwealth’s signature SMART solar program at a time when we need the clean energy industry to play a leading role in our economic recovery. Doubling the program’s size to a total of 3,200 megawatts will provide a clear runway for NECEC’s developer members. Moreover, by grandfathering existing projects from the new and tightened land use restrictions, DOER has ensured that projects under development will not face a punitive change in rules in the middle of the game. NECEC will be monitoring the progress of the SMART program in the months ahead and looks forward to working alongside DOER and our members to make this critical second phase a success.”
