The New England Clean Energy Council (NECEC) commends Governors Baker, Malloy and Raimondo for showing great leadership by working together to help address the energy challenges New England faces.
“Procurement of renewable energy, such as wind from northern New England and hydropower, along with distributed solar, biomass, renewable thermal and other distributed resources, is a key way to address significant retirements of large electric generating facilities,” said NECEC President Peter Rothstein. “New England is at the end of the traditional energy pipeline with no coal, oil, or natural gas of our own, costing ratepayers top dollar for the fuels we import for electricity, heating, and transportation. The proposed multi-state competitive bidding process will procure large-scale renewable energy in a way that will benefit ratepayers, the environment and the region’s economic competitiveness. .”
Rothstein continues: “NECEC looks forward to working with the Baker, Malloy and Raimondo Administrations to review the RFP with our clean energy member companies to ensure that this process will lead to competitive, cost-effective procurements of renewable energy for New England energy consumers.”
